See Six BJP Pieces by Christi C!!!

Christi C. is still working toward completing this project. She has finished June - October, and is nearly done with November. Since Christi doesn't have a website or blog, I've taken pictures of these beautiful pieces and posted them here on my blog for your viewing pleasure! Here's a peek...

Christi Carter, Aug BJP, detail
I've also posted pictures of pieces by Christy H. who just finished her last piece for the year! You can see them here.

I am so very proud of these two gals (and many others unknown to me) for their perserverance!

March page 2007 BJP

Hi everyone, it has been a very long time since I posted. I finally finished my 8th page, which is for March of 2008. It has been done for awhile but I have had computer problems and was not able to download the picture and then post it. But it is there now if you would like to take a look.

Happy beading,

Slow as molasses in January

Hi,

I finally finished my April page from 2007-08. For the next go around I'm going to make smaller pieces. You can see April on my blog:

slow going...

Well, I finally finished all of the fire on my Elemental Fire panel. I still have to choose the colors for the inside - it will be green, like the leaf in the center of Elemental Air, but more of a true green as opposed to green-blue or blue-green.

Part of the reason this is going so slow is because I am doing a lot of writing lately. I have written a couple of new poems. I am also taking an Intro to Fiction Writing course online through UNC-Chapel Hill which is a blast - but tons of work.

Good Bye 2007 BJP

Today is the last day of the 2007 Bead Journal
Project.
I am glad that I am done with all of my 12 pages.
You can check my blog to see my last project.

My last page is complete!

Hello beady friends!

Well, talk about getting down to the wire! My last page, my November page, is finally finished and you can see it here. Even though I am 3 months late, I am feeling quite a sense of accomplishment today to be finally done with all of my pages.
To all of my fellow BJPers who are not done yet - have faith, it WILL happen. Keep on beading and, most of all, have fun!

Time Is SO Catching Up With Me!

Here it is, August 30, only one more day until 2008-2009 BJP officially begins.  I am nowhere near finishing up 2007...  and I'm realizing that that doesn't really matter so much.  This has been a wonderful, sanity-keeping experience for me, having my BJP project to come back to after things went haywire, which they did on a regular basis this last year.  I can confidently say that I wouldn't have come through nearly as well as I have without the beadwork and all of you to encourage and inspire me.  At this point I have 6 and 5/6th pages done, just a bit over half of the 12 I'd hoped to have.  And my solution is to invoke my Artistic License and, well, cheat and declare that each page will represent 2 months.  :- D  Oh, I'll still be working on 2007-2008 as I go along,  but right now I can have that (somewhat false) sense of achievement and completion. Page 7 will  be finished up by tomorrow, and then I will start 2008-2009.  And I still haven't decided on size, theme (if any), or anything.  I can't wait to find out what I'll come up with!

How do I post on the New Blog??

I have not recieved an invitation to post on any of the new blogs so how do I do this?

Ooops!

You would think by now this old girl could figure out where to post! The last post was meant to go to my 2008 BJP group . . .

Time flies when one is having fun . . .

Greetings from the high desert country of southern New Mexico! Our state motto -- the Land of Enchantment -- really says it all when it comes to living in a place with constant creative inspiration.

Can't believe it is time for the next BJP already. Spent the entire summer beading up a storm on many other projects and now it is nearly time to solidify thoughts and plans for my 2008 BJP pages. Last year I used a 6 x 8 inch format which was ambitious and there were many months when I had wished I began with a smaller format. So, this year's efforts will go a teeny bit smaller -- 4 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches.

Welcome to all the new folks joining in the project. You will find we have become a family of sorts and this will be the best online group experience you can hope to have anywhere! Lots of encouragement and love gets spread around liberally.

Looking forward to this year and all the creativity and inspiration I am sure will be generated in abundance . . .

Questions about the new 2008-2009 blog

Hi! I had to post these questions here because...well, because I couldn't post them on the proper blog LOL!!

1 What do we need to do to be able to post on the new blog?
2 Could someone please change the comments settings so that those of us who don't use blogger blogs can post too?

Thanks on both counts :-)

Progress... of a Sort

I'm well underway with my December page, and you can view it in its "in progress" state on my blog.  It's been another "interesting" year for me, but most loose ends have been wrapped up.   2007 is about to wrap up, and here I am with still many to go.  Oh, well.  All the family stuff is cleared up and the paying work is coming in on a more scheduled basis, so I will have more time to work on my 2008 pages, as well as the remaining pages for 2007.  This has been a wonderful experience.  I've learned so much, especially from all of you and your amazing and spectacular art.  2008 can only be better!

Contest and update

I keep forgetting to post this information here.  I know that some of you have turned your BJP project into books and thought that some of you might be interested in Beadwork's:  Beadwork VI: The Beaded Book.  The entries are due by the middle of December.  If you are interested all the details are on their website.  If you just like books and have used them for inspiration you might also want to check it out since the entries don't actually have to be a book.

For those who want to know what I have been up to I am including links below to my BJP posts in the order they were written and my web gallery and website. ~ Angie

Lillian D. wants you to know...

Lillian D of WA state joined the BJP last April, fully expecting to meet her commitment to the project. We heard from her a couple of times in the first months... but not since... until a few days ago when she wrote to me and asked me to let you all know why she "dropped out of sight."

This is what she wrote...

I've been battling a surprising medical condition since I last posted in, I believe August 2007...To make a long story short...They found a pancreatic mass in my abdomen. It's in a too dangerous spot to remove it, too much to radiate and chemo didn't work. I'm in Hospice right now and still in shock!!!!!

In response to my reply, she wrote...

I would love to hear (emails) from members of the group-thanks! I feel the doctors think there is still a chance for miracles, and I'm and we're still doing all we can, but pancreatic stuff is tricky and unpredictable... I have a sister and brother-in-law in Portland (Dorothy and Wayne), and they come as often to visit as they can. And I have Jere at home :o) When I can, I will view some of the work, so many talented people in the group! :o) Thanks Thanks for your prayers, love and hugs and letting the group know for me.

So, if you'd like to write to her, the email is... lilliandelacruz{at}hotmail{dot}com. I hope a few of you will do that.... maybe it will help her in some way to know that we care and miss her. Thanks.

Robin A.

I've finished #9 & #10

I've just finished two more of my BJPs ... only two left to go!
February's piece naturally is rather red -- I do love Valentine's Day.
March's piece really commemorates a special birthday on July 29, 1958.... Can you believe that NASA is 50 years old!

Click here to view both pieces, "Hearts all over" and "In Honor of NASA"

I've got ideas in my head for my last two 2007 BJPs ... just need to find (or make) the time to start and finish each of them.

Dot' collage

I really don't have the time to finish up the quilted wall hanging to finally complete my 2007-2008 BJP. I don't have much time for quilting plus it is HOT in Ohio & i just don't have the energy to get all that fabric out & sit to sew. Therefore, my husband made up a collage image with all 12 of my leaves on a page to share. I think they look nice & am considering doing post cards with them when I teach or do shows. Enjoy them on my blog.

finishing your pages

This year I was more concerned about actually making each monthly piece than on how to finish and organize them. For next year, I want to think it through so I can actually have my pages together in some way.

So my question is, what have people done for this year or are thinking of doing for next year?

I know several people have shown their work - but not having multiple needle (quilting or sewing) or bookbinding skills, I feel unsure what to do.

Thanks, Susan

Almost done

I finally got all my pieces scanned & sent to the official website. I still haven't gotten them sewn onto the wall hanging. Okay, I confess that I don't have the wall hanging done yet. I've had so many deadlines coming up & then I went to a doll makers conference this month and taught a mini class. I don't have the pieces posted on my blog yet, but I wanted to share with you all a little bit of excitement for me. I have my beaded dolls on the cover of Doll Crafter & Costuming October 2008. This is my first cover & I am still so excited about it. So please check out my blog to see my post. Also this piece won 2nd place for beginning professional category at EDAC.

Last 3 pages finished!

I have been working away on my last remaining pages...

I have posted about each on my blog if you're interested in taking a peek, you can find them here:

This has been such a fascinating journey for me, I'm glad I could take it with all of you and I'm looking forward to the next year!

Yipee, It arrive today. I just can't drink enough of the images and colors in. The meditations are singularly thought provoking. I am so amazed at how large this book is, it is 9 x 11 1/2. I feel really privilege to now own this one of a kind book.

WOW

I've just spent wonderful time looking at all the pieces of work on the BJP website. Each person has moved me in one way or another and I plan to get back on the horse and finish my pieces before September.

My January page is partially finished but I'm not real happy with it and that has put a beader's block on that page.

Thank you Robin for thinking of this idea and sharing it with so many talented beaders.

Sacredartist - please respond!

I've been sending emails into the ozone apparently, as I have had no reply from Sacredartist. I'm trying to contact her because she won the drawing for a copy of my BJP book. So, Sacredartist, if you're reading this, please email me your snail mail address so I can send you the book. Or, if you've changed your mind about wanting it, please let me know that, so I can give it to the second name drawn by my husband. If anybody else knows how to reach her, please ask her to get in touch with me. Thanks! Robin A.

posting in members gallery

In addition to putting your photos on Flickr and individual blogs, you can also put them on the bjp homepage (link is on the left). The directions are easy to follow (they have to be if I was able to do it!) and your journal pages will look so nice displayed on one page. It's very exciting to see everyone's work, all the different styles, and the incredible talent.

I have just heard that there has been articles on the BJP project in magazines. Would it be possible to put these either on the BJP blog on the BJP website ?

What do you think ?

Sacred Tree Coming Together

I just wanted to let anyone who is interested in following the creative path for my 2008-9 Bead Journal Project know that at least through July I will be having a post come out every three days that will include all kinds of information on how I approach art, what new techniques I am trying and where I am at. I am working on the background that will later support my 12 monthly blocks. I will be putting posts here to remind people so thought I would let you all know. The first 3 posts are already up and the next is due on the 10th, hope you enjoy. ~Angie

Updating Life

I have updated both of my blogs.
Life has been beyond strange in the last couple of months. My Husband is back in Iraq for 2-3 months along with other drama. My Life is Here.

I have started working on my BJP for 2008-9. I haven't started working on the monthly blocks but since mine is going to include so much more than the monthly blocks I need a head start. The whole thing is going to be a quilt/mixed media collage with painted and beaded blocks. The entire piece is going to be a sort of self-portrait of things that are sacred, important, or symbolic of who I am. If you want to check out my creative journey go here.

I am so proud of all of us, those who have completed their pieces and all of those who are playing catch-up. It is truly amazing to see all of the amazing pieces that have come out of this year. I know that I am not the only one who feels they have made huge growth as artists. I want to thank all of you for everything that you have put into making this an incredible year for me. Angie

Finishing - Final Solution Found!

.
bead journal project, Robin Atkins, finishing detailThis picture is a clue... To see the solution, take a peek at my blog, here! I'm satisfied now, at last... They are finished!

My bead/quilt friend Lunnette (also in the BJP) coined the phrase, Paralyzed By Finish... Often when a long-term project is completed, there is a period of paralyzation of creativity and productivity, of being stuck, of being down emotionally. Her solution is this: ALWAYS have a new project started before finishing an old one. I wish I had heeded her, because now I'm suffering the PBF syndrome... So, I caution you... finishers take note!

I'm Shaking My Fist In Mock Rage

At YOU, Robin A! Drat you!! Just when I thought I'd put the BJP behind me, here you go and inspire me again. Now I won't be able to rest until I make a book of my own!

Since I thought I was done, I made this post HERE where I show off the purse and box I made to display my pages (pics were also loaded to the Flickr site).

*sigh* I guess ya'll haven't seen the last of me after all. Drat you, Robin Atkins!!

Book Report... MyPublisher Gets an A!

.
bead embroidery, Robin Atkins, BJP August
As per an earlier post, I followed Geneviève's lead and made a book about my BJP pieces for the year using MyPublisher. If you haven't already, you can see a virtual copy of the book here. When I posted about it earlier, I said I'd get back to you with a report as soon as the hard copy arrived.

Yay! It's here and looks fabulous!!!! I'm so pleased with it. They did a great job. The colors are as I expected (mostly) and everything looks as it does in the virtual copy. So, although "vanity books" are a bit expensive, I'm so happy to have it. The hard cover is nice and the paper jacket is stunning... worth the extra 5 bucks in my mind. MyPublisher definitely gets an "A" on this one.

The only problem was that it must have gotten dropped during shipping. So the corner of the box and (unfortunately) also the corner of the book got a bit crushed and bent. Right away I emailed customer service at MyPublisher. Within 15 minutes they had responded with a coupon for a free replacement, including free shipping. It was so easy. Now I'm waiting for the replacement copy.

In the meantime, I have the one with bent corners, which I'll give away as soon as the new one arrives. Write a comment to this post if you would like it. I'll put the names in a hat and draw a winner....

Cheers to all! Robin A.

Just a reminder

Hi everyone!

Just one BIG reminder for anyone trying to sign up for the 2008 BJP- I usually respond pretty quick with your confirmation that you are now a participant of the 2008 BJP, and I'm usually able to do it within 24 hours. However! a very few emails have come back to me as undeliverable!

I am assuming this is because your spam software is rejecting me. :( This is a very sad thing! Please make sure to add the BJP to your spam software as acceptable email, especially if you haven't received a response from me.

I'm loving everyone's pages that are being finished up for 2007 - only another 2 (short) months till we start anew!

Bead Jornal 2007 Pages

I have had so many deadlines that it has been difficult for me to meet every one of them and I am sorry to be tardy.
I am sending along several pictures of completed Bead Journal pages for all to see. I found this project to be very motivating and exciting to meet some of the personal challenges I set for myself for each page. Some of these challenges were:
create a page totally mixed media using beads, thread, ribbon embroidery
create a page using my own original art work and bead embroider it
create a page using photo transfer and the bead embroidery technique of Amy Clarke
create a page using beads & sequins to learn how to embroider with sequins
create a page using modular fabric design motifs with a bit of bead embroidery
create a page using flat peyote stitch to translate my business logo

Just cheering you all on

G'Day all,
Thought I'd just pop in and cheer on those of you who have still to finish. You all know that you will get there and it is so satisfying when you have completed it.
I'm enjoying my little busmans holiday, I've been making a few baubles for presents and catching up with my social life.
I'm off now to check out the Members Pages at our website, I've no work today and can't think of anything better that looking at everyones completed work for an hour or two.

May Page Done!

Now I have to work backwards and finish the last two months. I finished this one in record time. Take a look at it here, if you like! Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

I haven't been able to share for about a month and have no pictures. Family health issues have intervened. I don't have my book together as my 79 year-old Dear Husband developed the worst kind of West Nile Virus and almost died from it and is now recovering. I'm thinking I might get it done this week end however as he is improving so much and very quickly.

I note a lot of frustration and ennui at finishing this years works for the BJP and can only think a lot of us are having family and professional issues as well as exciting events that take up a lot of energy and time (here I'm thinking graduations, deaths, births, and weddings for the big ones). As one of the older members of this group, I would love to give you each a big hug and say, oh, just do it. We will not see your 'mistakes' unless you point them out to us (something I always feel compelled to do as well) and you'll feel energized and ready to start again in September. I'm collecting eyes for my new theme for 2008, "The Eyes Have It" and thinking of a new format to put them together.

You've done amazing work as I check it out when I can. I have to get dressed for a doctor's appointment for my DH and must leave. But really, just do it! Follow your heart and just finish it. Finished feels good! You can always go back and make some changes or do it differently next year!

Made a BOOK!

After seeing how Geneviève made a fabulous book with pictures (and stories) of her BJP pieces, I decided to do one too. It's not as easy as the company wants you to think (at least it wasn't for me), but I like the results. I ordered a hard copy, which should arrive in the next few days. I'll report back when it does to tell you what I think of the quality, etc. In the meantime, if you're interested, you can see a "virtual" copy of my book here.

Robin A.

PS The books take a few minutes to load...

New page - stuck too

I too was/am stuck, or blocked, or what ever what you want to call it. I just can't bring myself to work on my page any longer. I wanted to finish it before I posted but it may be awhile. So I posted a picture of my current page and my most recent completed beaded project. I also talk about my inspiration for the current page, it started 7 years ago! Link to my blog below.

Reading the advise Timaree got is helpful. Although I know in my case, it is time to move on to something else for a bit. I have not posted in quite a while, either here or on my own blog I have been checking out everyone's pages all along and as always, everyone's work is amazing and inspirational.

I have no clue how I will put my pages together and look forward to seeing what you do Robin.

I now have 7 1/2 pages, so almost ready for the web site. I still plan to get there before the next Journal starts in September. Definitely doing smaller pages next time around. I have many ideas for that too, so while I am sort of stuck on my current page I know I will keep at it.

Thank you everyone for continuing to post and sharing your work with all of us! Happy beading, Nancy K.

What to do? What to do?

What to do with my 12 BJP pages... this is the driving question that's been bugging me for months and months! OK, so I made a decision to make them into "soul cards" (sort of like tarot cards)... and did... see them here.

But, all this will change... soon. You'll see in the next post. Anyone else going through this near crisis about what to do with your pieces????? (Do I hear you saying misery loves company???)

Thankyou!

I want to thank everyone for your comments to help me through a tough spot. I think I'd gotten used to pretty much knowing how to proceed with a page and was worrying overmuch about making it perfect. Time is up more or less and I wasn't getting there.
Well, I couldn't very well take a favorite bead and lay it down as I'm working almost entirely in seed beads. How to make a chocolate bunny was one of the things bugging me though, so I decided to make one as a separate unit so if it didn't turn out I could skip it, modify it or whatever; at least it'd be a start I figured. So this is my chocolate bunny. The beads are size 15s. And now I have started on the page!
Again, I thank all of you. I am so happy that I didn't have to sit and mope and dig myself out of my pit by myself. You all gave me a hand up and I truly appreciate it. I still don't have a clue as to what my May page will be......
Timaree

Almost there...

I counted my pages & thought I had *12* but alas I have 10 completed, the other 2 pages are almost readythough....yeah!!

I will load the photo's of the 10 BJP pages that are completed....yeah!

Many, many thanks again to Robin who thought the Big Think.

Stuck!

I have my April page ready to go and find I just can't seem to start it. I don't know why. I've been challenged by some of my pages but they haven't come to a dead stop before. What a time to hit the wall. I'm posting here to tell you I really want to finish my pages. I thought I'd have them done by now. I am hoping to put a few beads on my page today hoping that writing here will give me a push now that you all know I haven't been doing anything. Sheesh. I want to start next years pages and haven't finished this years. Is that what my problem is? I hope not.

Benefits

Just thought I'd share a new development in my own work as a result of participating in this year's BJP.

I had thought that someday I would make a family history crazy quilt utilizing heirloom textiles I've inherited over the years. After reading about Robin's "Decade Dolls" in her new book and making the small journal quilts each month for the past year it occurred to me that a series of small quilts instead of one large one might be a better idea. After all, I have three children; I'd rather they not have to cut up my work in order to have a piece of it when I'm gone! So while I won't officially be participating in the next BJP I will sort of be playing along on my own :- )

Nine done, only three left!

I cannot believe I am posting again so soon, but I have finished two more of my BJPs, for a grand total of 9 completed. "Queen of Everything" and "Under the Sea" have their pictures and stories told here.

Oh, it does feel good to be 3/4 finished. Just three more, just three more, just three more to go ... my new mantra. If I hurry, I may even have a month off to ponder new sizes or shapes for next year's BJP!

March is Finished!

I was progressing so well with my pages until my move. Sigh... Between the packing and the moving and getting settled into my new place, I have become quite the behinder. I am still plugging along one step at a time however. You can see my March page all finished here.
A big congratulations to all who have finished this amazing journey! Your artwork is truly breathtaking and so rich in color and meaning. I have enjoyed all of the sharing and friendships this past year and look forward to continuing with the 2008 BJP.
I am still on the BJP path and hope to finish the next 2 pages plus my November page over this summer.

I turned into a behinder the past two months - I did finally finish April and am looking forward to working on May this weekend. April is here.

Diane

Last page completed

I have finished my April and May pages for the 2007 BJP. All my other pages are on the BJP blog and on Flickr.

It's been a truly wonderful year for me.

Thanks to all for the inspiration, the support, the friendship, thanks for sharing stories and awesome beadwork ! I have registered for BJP 2008, and will follow up on your blogs whether you are in the 2008 adventure or not.

Take care,

two more done ....

Yes, you read that correctly! This behinder is slowly catching up. I've completed my 6th ("Cooler Days Ahead") and 7th ("Mermaid with Friends") BJPs and already have 2 more underway ....
I think I can, I think I can, I think I can really finish all 12 -- but before September? We shall see .....

and if I could only find my very first BJP -- finished long ago when we began the yearlong fun, never photographed, and missing in my cluttery, well-loved home .... where shall I look next ..... or shall I concentrate on finishing my late BJPs first?

Done with leaves

I finished my May leaf. I can't believe these are all finished. Now the hard part-put them all together in a quilted wall hanging. I think I'm going to have to be downstairs discussing with my Janome if he thinks that he & I can do this thing. I got some great material from St. Theresa's Treasure Trove to use as the tree trunk, but need to do some figuring out the logistics of quilting to finish this project soon. I want to get it done before I got to EDAC next month.

So May is all about my trip with Cyn to celebrate her 50th birthday. It has everything from taxi cabs, to bare feet, to sparkle. Please take a look at my last leaf on my blog site.

This week

Photo's will be taken tomorrow & then I will list the results on my blog.

Books that influence us

I've read about several books that people have noted in their blogs that have influenced them in their beading or just in life in general. I thought it would be fun if people could list the books they've recommended. I read one that KV recommended, Bless Me, Ultima, which was wonderful.
What's on your list?

The Spiral of Fear - May's Barrette for BJP

....."A society or person that has allowed a tyrannical government or Bully to be responsible for them rather than being pro active become reactive...afraid of making the giant angry. This fear gives the tyrannical government or Bully more power over the fearful. All a Bully has to do is create the scenario that says if you do this you might count on me, but if you don't you should be afraid of me. This in turn creates more fear. Especially when the Bully is erratic. It also feeds the Bully's ego.
Fear is an emotion and emotions are hard to control...they are just feelings."

You can read the entire post here.

Finished!

Done! And hardly late at all! I'm so thrilled and proud to have been on this journey with so many talented people. Thanks, Robin, and everyone else, finished or not, for being part of this! I think I'll keep blogging on my BJP blog pages, in anticipation of the beginning of the new project. Next year I'll be working on smaller 'canvases' probably art card side, but probably beading them more intensively (at least that's my idea for now, who knows what I'll want to do in September. :-) You can see my May page here.
Cheers,
Sarah

May Page Accompli!

Well, I thought I was finished, but No. You can see my page for May HERE.

I realized there's still a bit more beadwork to be done.

I believe I'm done with all my pages...I think

Unless I decide I hate the way all the pages are strung together.

I also posted a current post showing 4 of my favorites as well as a really bad picture of all my pieces together.  The photo of the 4 show how I put all the pages together, just imagine all 12 strung together that way.  Click here for that.

Tonight I finally put up my May page, click here.

Now if I can get myself to resize everything so I can get it posted to the BJP webpage.  And one more upload to Flickr.  I think since I just spent 2 hours fixing photos and uploading I'll do all that maintence work over the next weekend.

I Have A Question

Since this blog was set up for this year's project is it going to remain active throughout the BJP for '08-09 as well? Even though I'm not planning to participate officially I'd like the opportunity to keep up with what everyone else is doing next year.

Apologies for failing BJP 2007

Dear Robin and All involved in BJP,
Unfortunately I was dragging the chain throughout BJP but I was honestly committed to finishing - well that was until March, when as a pedestrain, I was hit by a car.

As a righthander and with broken arm, collarbone, ankle and seven ribs ... all on the right side, I was hospitalised for six weeks. I've been home three weeks, despite the best intentions I lack the ability and motivation to carry on with this marvellous project for now.

Congratulations Everyone, Thank YOU Robin for bringing us all together and Sincere Apologies for not making the deadline !

Finished-Hooray!

I just posted my last page on my blog. I had started a page for September way back then. For some unknown reason I went cold on it. Couldn't finish it. I decided to trek on with the others. When it came time to finish it, again it did not speak to me. What to do??? I did another page that exemplifies September in the San Joaquin Valley. The grape harvest is in full swing at that time of year. I thought an overflowing barrel of grapes would depict that. You can see it on my blog: http://sharedstuffbyarline.blogspot.com/

Anne of Green Gables

When I signed up for the Bead Journal Project on May 31st last year, I had no idea of how dear this online group would become to me nor how much I would enjoy and learn from participating in it. It was the best birthday present I could ever have given myself.

2007-2008 FINISHED!!

I've posted my BJP 2007-2008 on my blog if you'd like to take a peek. Now to figure out how to do the member's gallery page on our website! I'm already thinking about 2008-2009 and can't wait to get started!! Now I'm off to the Pike Place Market Festival to celebrate turning 50 today!

May page complete!

I am shaking myself all over as I try to realize that I've completed the pages for the first year of this project! Am signed up for next year and have my theme but not the size of the finished pages. Before I think about that I need to devise a permanent home for these pages. I was planning on a scroll - really set on the idea - but now I see that the pages won't roll very easily. To force them into a scroll shape and then unroll it for show & tell, then reroll - over and over - is to risk damage and bending portions of the page. So I'm back to square one for the moment but committed to having this organized and complete by the time the 2008 cycle begins in September.

Meanwhile you can see my completed page right here. What a year it's been!

One More Done!

Finally finished February yesterday. You can take a look at it if you'd like to.

I have three more to go and I am determined to finish them.

Thanks to Robin for starting this project that has made me grow as an artist. It hasn't always been easy, nor have things turned out as I imagined they would, but I learned a lot and my technique has improved.

Thanks, everyone, for the inspiration and encouragement.

Happy June!

April's Done! Whew!

Hi, all! Sorry I haven't been around much. Been caring for a friend after her surgery...and my computer blew while I was gone! So I'm a little behinder than I was before! Ah, well...all in good time.
So April is done...you can see it here. I'm also gonna be sure to start May by the end of tomorrow! Gotta have at least a little of it done in the same month!!!
Some of you are doing so well at completing everything! It all looks so good & inspires me to keep going & get mine all on their boards!!! Again...all in good time!
Happy Aloha Friday!

April's page is done

I finally finished my April BJP and "Verde" can be viewed on my blog: Nightbeaderatlarge.blogspot.com. She kept growing and growing and I was running out of the green background beads so she had to stop. I'm still not finished with all my pages yet, but plan on being finished before the next BJP starts in September.

Final Report

Tomorrow is May 31 (where I live anyway!). I checked back through Robin's administrative posts and discovered that tomorrow is the date by which we were supposed to have had all of our bead journal 'pages' completed.

Well.

Not happenin'. At least not in the Magpie's Nest. :- (

I have three pages to finish before my set of 12 will be complete. Two are pieced and awaiting embellishment. One is nearly pieced and then will need to be embellished. {sigh} And it all started out so well too!

I have every intention of completing the final three pieces. My goal is the end of June (yes, this year!). I also intend to submit my 12 beaded journal quilts to the BJP website. I think it will be educational for me to see them all in one place, and a place that is not in my own home.

This has been a good experience. I've grown as an artist and a blogger and I've learned a lot about myself. I will not be participating in the next BJP however. I want to take some of what I've learned and see where else it can take me. That shows you just how valuable this experience has been: I'm ready to move on to other endeavors... things I wasn't ready or able to undertake a year ago. So kudos to you, Robin, for instigating this whole project in the first place! And thank you to everyone who participated even a little bit. I was inspired and impressed by your work more often than you know :- )

Still Beading but feeling beadwildered

I have all the months in progress and most completed except actual finishing off. I have a million valid excuses but life just keeps happening as we're making other plans. The computer baffles me, it's taken me all year just to attempt blogging but I wanted everyone to know how much I have enjoyed reading and looking at every one's work. They are all so wonderfully different and inspiring. I feel bad about not sharing. I don't have a clue on how to post pictures of my projects. Help!! I've got a friend that said she could probably help but she's out of state helping with her daughter's wedding. Hopeful I can still post them on BJP site. I plan on signing up for 2008 but will try something smaller, I think. Thanks!! to all for Sharing your beautiful work. It's been a real blessing !! Frances

A Year in Beads

It's finished! I put the last stitches on my BJP piece for May a few days ago, photographed Oct. - May yesterday, and my sweet hubby loaded everything onto my website today. My full year's worth of pages can now be seen at www.lisabinkley.com under the gallery titled "one year, one leaf, one meditation." This has been such a great process for me; and I know it has been for many others as well. Robin, thank you so much for coming up with the idea and for all you've done to make this such a great process.
I think it's going to feel a bit strange to start working on something that doesn't have a big beaded cottonwood leaf in the middle. But my head is already swimming with ideas for future beadwork. I'll keep checking in on the 2008 BJP, and I hope it's a great process for everyone involved.
If any of you are in the Madison, WI are over the summer, feel free to stop by the Overture Center for the Arts on State St. All 12 of my BJP pieces will be in a four-person show at the center in the 1st floor gallery (from June 21 - Sept. 14). If you're in town on June 27th, be sure to stop by and say hi at our opening reception that evening.
Best wishes and happy beading to everyone in the BJP. Lisa B.

Mixed Feelings

I've posted the last of my pics to Flickr - sorry for putting so many on at once! It covers all of 2008 and the final arrangement. I was going to put a poem in the middle, but instead it will be for the next BJP pages.

Many blessings on Robin for starting this. It has helped me define myself as a bead artist, given me deadlines to meet, and a sense of belonging to something much, much bigger than myself sitting in my corner pricking my fingers! I am sad to see this BJP end, but looking forward to the next.

Straggler

Yes, that's me.
I'm the straggler.
I do however have some photo's to play with and upload.

My problem -- when I started -- was that I had an obsession with covering the entire piece of material.
And that stymied me.
And stopped me.
I "completed", (for want of a better word), two pieces.
And then hit the brick wall.
I just could not force myself to continue where I had started because I truly did dislike the first two I attempted.
I then settled on one large piece with concentration on a specific area each month.
That made it so much easier for me.
With the exception of 3 small areas that remain, I believe that I am finished -- well, I do have to add the backing to it.

I'll get the photo's happening and add them to the library.

Next time? well, I have an idea in mind already. And since I have the idea, and the concept, perhaps I can complete the seperate pieces for each one.

The inspiration that I have received from this group is beyond comprehension.
Each day I see something that someone else has done --and it takes my breath away.
You are all so phenomenal.

photo updates

Hi everyone,

I have been busy beading and actually kept up with my monthly bead project. My problem seems to remember to post my progress. (I guess I would rather bead than play on the computer - when I can get my daughter and husband off of it anyway). Here is a link to my updated website. www.dancingravendesigns.com Hope you enjoy it. I know I loved looking at all of your work and I would like to join the 2008 bjp - it's kind of nice to work on something that has meaning for me only.

An on-time behinder (for once)

Hi all. I've just posted my May page, the final one for me. You can view it here.

I want to thank all of you who have been so supportive (and *funny*!) in comments on my pages. This is truly one of the most generous groups I've ever been a part of. It says a lot about the spirit that Robin and everyone else have brought to this project. Even as a beginning beader, I've felt comfortable and safe in this group of truly talented artists.

I'll be watching the new year's projects as a non-participant, but as an enthusiastic admirer.

Thank you so much for the opportunity, the generosity of spirit and for sharing your gifts with me.

Because of joining the BJP, I have been a blogger for a year now. I noticed it after Grace of Gracebeading said she'd been blogging for a year. So, I am celebrating. Come on by and visit.

still there

Just to let Robin and the group know I am still there, currently working on my May piece, ideas for April but March is still the sticky one. With the irregular hours of my job, finding the time to complete is a challenge in itself! Hoping to post May by the end of the week.

March is finished!

detail, bead embroidery by Robin Atkins
I finished March today! Check it out here.

April is already done. May is ready to bead while I'm visiting my Mom in MN next week. I'll be meeting and beading with Julie, my sister-in-law, and Pink Moon Hallow, our BJP web mistress... I'm so looking forward to meeting her in person for the first time!

No words to tell you all how very proud I am of you all! Some are finished, many are determined to complete the year no matter how much of a behinder they are. The work? Well, I'm just in awe of it. Looking at the member pages on our website over and over again is such a thrill!!! We be good!

Hugs to all...
Robin A.

Tips Wanted

Now that a lot of people are winding down and finishing their bjp pages, are there any tips you'd like to share?

I've seen many pages that have interesting techniques - adding photos, painting, glue, fusing fibers - and if anyone wants to write about their technique we'll post that under the tips section on the home page.

I still have to finish my May page, just a few more rows...but I think I'm procrastinating because I know I'll be sad to be really done. It's been such an exciting adventure and I've met the greatest people.

DeviantART Daily Deviation!!!

The first quarter of my 2007 BJP was given a Daily Deviation at DeviantART! There are many things being posted to DeviantART every day (about 1 per second or so). Each day, about 20 Daily Deviations are chosen to be showcased. They are from many different categories - photography, traditional art, etc., and not many are from the Artisan Craft category. My quarter panel "Air" was chosen as one of today's Daily Deviations! You can see the post here: http://beadg1rl.deviantart.com/art/Air-83547456.

Next BJP I am going to do a series using the poetry I have been writing and it's all in my DeviantART gallery as well: http://beadg1rl.deviantart.com/gallery/#_browse

CAN YOU BELIEVE I'M DONE!
I can't either, and except for finishing volume two of the book all the beading is done. I've entered the month's of April and May here. The one for March is here. Since I'm not sure if I've done this correctly, the HTML class starts next week, I'm going to tell you it is in the March 02, 2008 archive as well. Today's post refers to the May 16th post that I've just posted. Whew! I'm never sure of these things, but I hope this helps you figure it out.

Beading is on the RUSH hour!

This morning I spend about 20 minutes writing a post, which for some reason did not get saved & did not get published....so here I am again, however my same thoughts at the moment are not quite as lovely as this morning, so here I go.

I am pushing the "beading Rush hour" to finish all that remains in my journal, I decided this morning that I can't handle not finishing, can't always be motivated & can't always accomplish some of my projects, sooooo I am "doing it my way" which only means that I am bribing myself...how, well I just started an Etsy store for recycling with a friend & said Jody you can do the same thing with your beaded journal............so that is what I am doing.

So hang on to my hat, it may be a bumpy road but my "Rush hour to beading" will get accomplished or else I am a very old recycled beader!!

Leaving

the BJProject. A month ago I had to concede that I was the behindest of the behinder beaders and just would not catch up. I'll have to be satisfied with my smaller collection of pieces hanging on the wall. Sometimes life just manages to get in the way of the things we really want to do. I'll continue to follow everybody's progress as it's fun to see what all of you are doing.

As to the why, if you care to read about the reason, I got very involved in another project and it's on my blog... here.

Good show and I look forward to seeing the finished journals.

I finished a piece that may be the May piece or not...it's on flickr and my blog here.

New Page Done

I have finished another page, at last. I don't know if I'm Queen of Behinders, but I'm at least one of the Princesses...! :- ) You can see it here, or at the Flickr site.

March Page in Progress

Hi everyone,

Oh dear, I've become a "way behinder" now because of my move last month. The last 2 months have been filled with packing, moving and unpacking my things in my new home. I was delighted to recently unpack my March page that I had started back before the packing process had begun and I'm happy to say that I have started to bead again. You can see my progress here.

I've signed up for the 2008 BJP and am looking forward to another year of beading! First, my focus is to finish 2007 though.

Happy to be beading again,
Karen

First pannel finished

Hello fellow beaders

I've finished the 4 green pages and the panel is mounted, you can view it HERE
I'll show it during my exhibition in Larchmont (NY-USA) during all the month of June.
I'll be happy to meet any beader who lives in this area for the opening which will take place on Saturday June 7 from 3.00 to 4.30 p.m.
If you plan to come, please drop me a line on my blog.

I'm a little behind for the 2 last pages, but they'll be finished during the summer.

Last page

I so can not believe my May page is finished. It took me only 4 days, it flew by. It reminds me of spring and happiness. You can read about it and see it here. I also have a picture of all of my 12 pages together here.

I still have cards and journals to make for my November to May pages so I have plenty to keep me busy until we start again in Sept, Angie

I Broke out the Champange at 9:20am Sydney Time

I completed my August piece at 9:20am Sydney time this morning and Yes I really did break out the champange, I had a little bottle put adise for this ocassion. It went down really well!
August is the page I struggled with, I have two unfinished pages for August,
which will now go into the BJP 2008.
I love this pendant and I finally decided that as I don’t wear necklaces and only make them on request, I’d use it as a center piece in my August page.
The song ‘I never Promised you a Rose Garden ‘went through my mind and thought
it was apt as the August deadline has long past, it’s now May 2008!
And this is definatey NOT a Rose Garden.
So I'm off work today and am going to continue my celebrations. This has been a great year for me having made a lot of friends here and doing something I really love.
Raising a glass to you all and a special toast to Robin!
Cheers

March 'Page' Done

I'm pleased to report that my beaded journal quilt for March is finished. That only leaves February's to embellish and April and May to piece and embellish. I have plans for the final two; I just have to make the magic happen! You can see and read about March's quilt here.

I received my copy of Robin's new book and have taken time to read it. It's beautiful and inspiring. (Did we expect anything less?!) I think one of the roadblocks I was facing with February's quilt can be removed by using a technique Robin shares in the book. All I have to do is figure out which combination of beads I want to use...

One more to go

G'Day,
I have just finished my May page. As I made this the song,' Windmills of Your Mind' kept going through my head. Especially the line, ' Like the circles that you find, In the windmills of your mind'
Then I read Robin's post about using symbols in our work and did the test. Yes, Spirals were No1 for me, go figure!
You can see the full page on Flickr.
August is due to be finished either this afternoon or early tomorrow. I have also made an album of my pages, I found a scrapbooking album just the right size to hold my pages and bought two of them so have one ready for next year!
Cheers

May Bead Journal Project - completed

My bead journal for the last twelve months is finished and it's the a journey. Not so much in me learning new things, but in myself:
  • Can I do a challenge?
  • Can I maintain self imposed deadlines?
  • Can I put together a cohesive, but individual look?
I learned, I can.

To Kaytee...

I'm sorry, Kaytee... After some consideration, I removed the three slide shows and the widget which you posted to our blog for two reasons... one, because they didn't seem to be BJP related and two, because early on we set a blog guideline that there would be no slide shows due to loading time and space taken.

I hope you'll put this type of item on your own personal blog. You are very welcome to post links to slide shows of your work (even if it's not BJP related) on this blog. Please understand and not take this personally in any way.

I made a photo book

Hi all... I decided that it would be nice to have a keepsake photo book for my BJP pieces. One of the blogs I read had mentioned My Publisher, so I decided to give them a try. They had a two-for-one special, so I got two copies of my book for the price of one. The layout software was pretty easy to use, and I made a hard-cover book with a printed paper jacket. I am very impressed with the results. You can view my book online. The shipping costs to Canada were pretty high, though, so if I want to do this again I might look for a company on this side of the border.

Book has Arrived!

Wow! What a fun book! I love that I now have some place to refer to for ideas on what to bead next! Thank you! It is a wonderful job & the pictures are beautiful! I haven't had a chance to read through the whole thing yet but I have looked carefully at every picture.

Maybe you have written it somewhere & I just haven't seen it yet, but what size are the technique rectangles? they look like a wonderful idea for practicing techniques.

thank you for giving us a wonderful inspiring book!

The faster I go, the behinder I get

Yes, I'm late, but I'm finally catching up. I just posted January, February and March pieces here on my blog. It's so tempting to sign up for the next bead group because I'm going to miss seeing everybody's amazing work, but I think I need to get going on some fabric pieces I've had brewing for a while. I'm almost done with my April piece, and know what I'm doing for May, so I should be done in a week or so.

Book

The book arrived and it looks wonderful. Robin, thank you for writing it.

Back on track.

April's page is complete.
I have ordered supplies to make the pages into a book.
May's page may not be started yet but the idea is there.

Take a look at April here.
Hello fellow bead journal friends --

I notice as I read through some of the blogs that people are mentioning next year's BJP with a link to the website:
beadjournalproject.com. If everyone could mention that the project is continuing next year, (even if you're not), it will be a great way to attract new members.

Also, if you belong to a forum of some type, and would like to mention the project, that would be so helpful. I've put a post on the blogs I belong to (bead arts, all about beads, beadwork), but I know there are other forums for fibers, quilting, specific countries, and more.

And, if you are a member of a guild and can make an announcement or post a notice in the newsletter, that would be another way of getting the message out.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

October Done

Well, I finally finished my October piece. You can see it here. This is not what I had originally started with. My Hong Kong part was different but it was just not working. I finally just removed all the beads & started over with something that I like better. Sometimes you just have to move on. This is a different piece for me but as I'm new to bead embroidery, I'm anxious to try different approaches. Not sure that I like it but it was a learning experience of dos & don'ts!

Heart to Hands Bead Embroidery

Whoooo-hooooo!

It's here! My new book has arrived and is looking fabulous! I'm so excited and grinning ear to ear about it. Four years of beads, sweat and fears are behind me now - the joy of sharing my passions and the job of paying my printing bills are ahead of me... What an amazing process and commitment it is to write and publish a book like this.

You - awesome group of open and creative souls - helped me more than I can say. I felt and tapped into the flow of creative energy surrounding us this past year. Without you, I doubt it would be finished at this time. Also, at the end, the going gets really tough, the technical difficulties mount and the worry about worthiness gets oppressive. Again, you rescued me. Especially your pre-orders helped me find the nerve to get it to the printer (perfect or not). So, please take it in... your creativity and generosity are there in my book. Thank you!

To those of you who pre-ordered, your books are in the mail! They went out yesterday and should be in your mail boxes by Tuesday. Whooooo-hoo!

completion!

Hi beaders!
Ah... finished a whole year and didn't give up in the middle! Incredible that this year is over... how can that be? Where does the time go??? My page for May is here, and my blog for the page is longer than usual... don't feel pressed to read it..... must be the coffee this morning, my fingers were flying faster than usual.
Thanks everyone, for a totally incredible year as I read everyone's blogs and perused your jaw-dropping creations... Sometimes it was the best part of my day!
And thanks again to Robin for starting it.
Hope to see everyone at the 2008 BJP!

May's Barrette BJP

I have not decided on the book that I wish to base my May barrette on. I am asking anyone that wishes to, to suggest a title. From the list of books put in the comment section of
"Wake Up" April's BJP Barrette, I will select one to read and make a barrette based on that book. I am looking forward to hearing your suggestion. You can post your comment here.
