Which WIRE for seed beads?

Another technique question: which wire would you recommend I use if I want to wire up some seed beeds and turn them into coils on a Journal page? Should I go with something like a sterling silver jewelry wire, or can I get away with something less expensive and maybe even in colors??? Also, could you please tell me what size of wire I need to look for.

TIA for any advice,

Hi, Christi!
I use 26g/28g or smaller wire for that. Whatever will fit thru' a seed bead. I can't use s.s. here 'cuz it's too humid, & it gets really yucky! So I use just the regular craft wire or some kind of hardware store wire that won't rust. I also save all my culled beads in a small bowl & string them onto wire to wrap around bags for gift wrap. Looks pretty festive & you don't waste those crooked little guys! :)

I use 22 to 24g so it holds it's shape better (like if I'm making coils) and I also use the japanese seed beads as they usually have larger holes.

The main concern I'd have is about corrosion, rust, and tarnishing that will happen over time with most wire... especially sterling silver. You might consider using gold-filled wire. I've had gold-filled wire earrings hanging (esposed to air) for 10 years with no noticeable damage to the surface of the wire. A good place to get it is Rio Grande Jewelry Supply in Albuquerque.

I use Artistic Wire which is colored and fun to work with. It's soft though so you can't hold the shape if the beads are too heavy. It would work great couched onto a bead embroidery.

CC: That was a great idea for the culled beads or even beads that get mixed together by accident!
