Obsession or Addiction

I'm only about halfway through the first block in this journey and already I have ideas for the next two years of a BJP.

Pretty scary, eh? Or obsessed. Who knew I would love seed beads so much. Certainly not I but it only took one class about 3 years ago and now it's a sickness. At least it takes up less space than, say, marble and granite sculpture

No,no,no, it's a healthy hobby; a bead a day keeps the psychologist away! Now repeat....

The finished pieces are easier to gift to friends than marble statues.

I'm finding the same thing. At first I worried that 12 pieces was a lot to squeeze in - in-between work, teaching and making jewelry - but I find I'm managing some time nearly every day, just because I look forward to it so much.

So I am not the only one thinking that I am going to have way more ideas than I can fit into 12 months? At least beads aren't fattening. Angie

I tried beading because I am heading toward 50 years old and it is looking less and less likely that I will be able to support a hobby as expensive as quilting or knitting when I retire. A beading project can absorb huge amounts of time without costing a small fortune in supplies, and is even more satisfying than more expensive hobbies. Quilting fabric is easily hitting $10 a yard, I never thought I would live to see *that* when I learned to quilt at 15! I usually spin my own yarn, but that is getting expensive, too. I am hoping beading doesn't get too trendy...

As addictions go, this is a very satisfying and (relatively) inexpensive one, anyway! I like to think it's my Monkey Mind being attracted to all those bright shiny little objects! ;-D But I get such satisfaction out of working with beads! Even if I don't necessarily like the way a piece is going, it still comes out looking beautiful... because of the nature of the beads.
