Finishing - Final Solution Found!

.
bead journal project, Robin Atkins, finishing detailThis picture is a clue... To see the solution, take a peek at my blog, here! I'm satisfied now, at last... They are finished!

My bead/quilt friend Lunnette (also in the BJP) coined the phrase, Paralyzed By Finish... Often when a long-term project is completed, there is a period of paralyzation of creativity and productivity, of being stuck, of being down emotionally. Her solution is this: ALWAYS have a new project started before finishing an old one. I wish I had heeded her, because now I'm suffering the PBF syndrome... So, I caution you... finishers take note!

I'm Shaking My Fist In Mock Rage

At YOU, Robin A! Drat you!! Just when I thought I'd put the BJP behind me, here you go and inspire me again. Now I won't be able to rest until I make a book of my own!

Since I thought I was done, I made this post HERE where I show off the purse and box I made to display my pages (pics were also loaded to the Flickr site).

*sigh* I guess ya'll haven't seen the last of me after all. Drat you, Robin Atkins!!

Book Report... MyPublisher Gets an A!

.
bead embroidery, Robin Atkins, BJP August
As per an earlier post, I followed Geneviève's lead and made a book about my BJP pieces for the year using MyPublisher. If you haven't already, you can see a virtual copy of the book here. When I posted about it earlier, I said I'd get back to you with a report as soon as the hard copy arrived.

Yay! It's here and looks fabulous!!!! I'm so pleased with it. They did a great job. The colors are as I expected (mostly) and everything looks as it does in the virtual copy. So, although "vanity books" are a bit expensive, I'm so happy to have it. The hard cover is nice and the paper jacket is stunning... worth the extra 5 bucks in my mind. MyPublisher definitely gets an "A" on this one.

The only problem was that it must have gotten dropped during shipping. So the corner of the box and (unfortunately) also the corner of the book got a bit crushed and bent. Right away I emailed customer service at MyPublisher. Within 15 minutes they had responded with a coupon for a free replacement, including free shipping. It was so easy. Now I'm waiting for the replacement copy.

In the meantime, I have the one with bent corners, which I'll give away as soon as the new one arrives. Write a comment to this post if you would like it. I'll put the names in a hat and draw a winner....

Cheers to all! Robin A.

Just a reminder

Hi everyone!

Just one BIG reminder for anyone trying to sign up for the 2008 BJP- I usually respond pretty quick with your confirmation that you are now a participant of the 2008 BJP, and I'm usually able to do it within 24 hours. However! a very few emails have come back to me as undeliverable!

I am assuming this is because your spam software is rejecting me. :( This is a very sad thing! Please make sure to add the BJP to your spam software as acceptable email, especially if you haven't received a response from me.

I'm loving everyone's pages that are being finished up for 2007 - only another 2 (short) months till we start anew!

Sending pics of Bead Journal 2007 pages

Marcia here again. I am not fluent as yet on how to send along pics of my Jouranl 2007 pages.
Please be patient with me on this issue. I am searching to see how to do this. If anyone out there has some hints, please do send along to me at potdfrog@bellsouth.net

Bead Jornal 2007 Pages

I have had so many deadlines that it has been difficult for me to meet every one of them and I am sorry to be tardy.
I am sending along several pictures of completed Bead Journal pages for all to see. I found this project to be very motivating and exciting to meet some of the personal challenges I set for myself for each page. Some of these challenges were:
create a page totally mixed media using beads, thread, ribbon embroidery
create a page using my own original art work and bead embroider it
create a page using photo transfer and the bead embroidery technique of Amy Clarke
create a page using beads & sequins to learn how to embroider with sequins
create a page using modular fabric design motifs with a bit of bead embroidery
create a page using flat peyote stitch to translate my business logo

May Page Done!

Now I have to work backwards and finish the last two months. I finished this one in record time. Take a look at it here, if you like! Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

I haven't been able to share for about a month and have no pictures. Family health issues have intervened. I don't have my book together as my 79 year-old Dear Husband developed the worst kind of West Nile Virus and almost died from it and is now recovering. I'm thinking I might get it done this week end however as he is improving so much and very quickly.

I note a lot of frustration and ennui at finishing this years works for the BJP and can only think a lot of us are having family and professional issues as well as exciting events that take up a lot of energy and time (here I'm thinking graduations, deaths, births, and weddings for the big ones). As one of the older members of this group, I would love to give you each a big hug and say, oh, just do it. We will not see your 'mistakes' unless you point them out to us (something I always feel compelled to do as well) and you'll feel energized and ready to start again in September. I'm collecting eyes for my new theme for 2008, "The Eyes Have It" and thinking of a new format to put them together.

You've done amazing work as I check it out when I can. I have to get dressed for a doctor's appointment for my DH and must leave. But really, just do it! Follow your heart and just finish it. Finished feels good! You can always go back and make some changes or do it differently next year!

Made a BOOK!

After seeing how Geneviève made a fabulous book with pictures (and stories) of her BJP pieces, I decided to do one too. It's not as easy as the company wants you to think (at least it wasn't for me), but I like the results. I ordered a hard copy, which should arrive in the next few days. I'll report back when it does to tell you what I think of the quality, etc. In the meantime, if you're interested, you can see a "virtual" copy of my book here.

Robin A.

PS The books take a few minutes to load...

New page - stuck too

I too was/am stuck, or blocked, or what ever what you want to call it. I just can't bring myself to work on my page any longer. I wanted to finish it before I posted but it may be awhile. So I posted a picture of my current page and my most recent completed beaded project. I also talk about my inspiration for the current page, it started 7 years ago! Link to my blog below.

Reading the advise Timaree got is helpful. Although I know in my case, it is time to move on to something else for a bit. I have not posted in quite a while, either here or on my own blog I have been checking out everyone's pages all along and as always, everyone's work is amazing and inspirational.

I have no clue how I will put my pages together and look forward to seeing what you do Robin.

I now have 7 1/2 pages, so almost ready for the web site. I still plan to get there before the next Journal starts in September. Definitely doing smaller pages next time around. I have many ideas for that too, so while I am sort of stuck on my current page I know I will keep at it.

Thank you everyone for continuing to post and sharing your work with all of us! Happy beading, Nancy K.

What to do? What to do?

What to do with my 12 BJP pages... this is the driving question that's been bugging me for months and months! OK, so I made a decision to make them into "soul cards" (sort of like tarot cards)... and did... see them here.

But, all this will change... soon. You'll see in the next post. Anyone else going through this near crisis about what to do with your pieces????? (Do I hear you saying misery loves company???)

Thankyou!

I want to thank everyone for your comments to help me through a tough spot. I think I'd gotten used to pretty much knowing how to proceed with a page and was worrying overmuch about making it perfect. Time is up more or less and I wasn't getting there.
Well, I couldn't very well take a favorite bead and lay it down as I'm working almost entirely in seed beads. How to make a chocolate bunny was one of the things bugging me though, so I decided to make one as a separate unit so if it didn't turn out I could skip it, modify it or whatever; at least it'd be a start I figured. So this is my chocolate bunny. The beads are size 15s. And now I have started on the page!
Again, I thank all of you. I am so happy that I didn't have to sit and mope and dig myself out of my pit by myself. You all gave me a hand up and I truly appreciate it. I still don't have a clue as to what my May page will be......
Timaree

Almost there...

I counted my pages & thought I had *12* but alas I have 10 completed, the other 2 pages are almost readythough....yeah!!

I will load the photo's of the 10 BJP pages that are completed....yeah!

My Year Of Beads

I've put together a blog post here that sort of sums up my time in the BJP and with you all.

Many, many thanks again to Robin who thought the Big Think.

Stuck!

I have my April page ready to go and find I just can't seem to start it. I don't know why. I've been challenged by some of my pages but they haven't come to a dead stop before. What a time to hit the wall. I'm posting here to tell you I really want to finish my pages. I thought I'd have them done by now. I am hoping to put a few beads on my page today hoping that writing here will give me a push now that you all know I haven't been doing anything. Sheesh. I want to start next years pages and haven't finished this years. Is that what my problem is? I hope not.

Benefits

Just thought I'd share a new development in my own work as a result of participating in this year's BJP.

I had thought that someday I would make a family history crazy quilt utilizing heirloom textiles I've inherited over the years. After reading about Robin's "Decade Dolls" in her new book and making the small journal quilts each month for the past year it occurred to me that a series of small quilts instead of one large one might be a better idea. After all, I have three children; I'd rather they not have to cut up my work in order to have a piece of it when I'm gone! So while I won't officially be participating in the next BJP I will sort of be playing along on my own :- )

Nine done, only three left!

I cannot believe I am posting again so soon, but I have finished two more of my BJPs, for a grand total of 9 completed. "Queen of Everything" and "Under the Sea" have their pictures and stories told here.

Oh, it does feel good to be 3/4 finished. Just three more, just three more, just three more to go ... my new mantra. If I hurry, I may even have a month off to ponder new sizes or shapes for next year's BJP!

March is Finished!

I was progressing so well with my pages until my move. Sigh... Between the packing and the moving and getting settled into my new place, I have become quite the behinder. I am still plugging along one step at a time however. You can see my March page all finished here.
A big congratulations to all who have finished this amazing journey! Your artwork is truly breathtaking and so rich in color and meaning. I have enjoyed all of the sharing and friendships this past year and look forward to continuing with the 2008 BJP.
I am still on the BJP path and hope to finish the next 2 pages plus my November page over this summer.

We all climbed mountains this year and all of us earned our stripes along the way! Congratulations to everyone! Big hugs and a tip 'o my hat! Robin A.

Playing Catch Up

I turned into a behinder the past two months - I did finally finish April and am looking forward to working on May this weekend. April is here.

Diane

It's been a truly wonderful year for me.

Thanks to all for the inspiration, the support, the friendship, thanks for sharing stories and awesome beadwork ! I have registered for BJP 2008, and will follow up on your blogs whether you are in the 2008 adventure or not.

Take care,

two more done ....

Yes, you read that correctly! This behinder is slowly catching up. I've completed my 6th ("Cooler Days Ahead") and 7th ("Mermaid with Friends") BJPs and already have 2 more underway ....
I think I can, I think I can, I think I can really finish all 12 -- but before September? We shall see .....

and if I could only find my very first BJP -- finished long ago when we began the yearlong fun, never photographed, and missing in my cluttery, well-loved home .... where shall I look next ..... or shall I concentrate on finishing my late BJPs first?

Done with leaves

I finished my May leaf. I can't believe these are all finished. Now the hard part-put them all together in a quilted wall hanging. I think I'm going to have to be downstairs discussing with my Janome if he thinks that he & I can do this thing. I got some great material from St. Theresa's Treasure Trove to use as the tree trunk, but need to do some figuring out the logistics of quilting to finish this project soon. I want to get it done before I got to EDAC next month.

So May is all about my trip with Cyn to celebrate her 50th birthday. It has everything from taxi cabs, to bare feet, to sparkle. Please take a look at my last leaf on my blog site.

This week

Photo's will be taken tomorrow & then I will list the results on my blog.

Books that influence us

I've read about several books that people have noted in their blogs that have influenced them in their beading or just in life in general. I thought it would be fun if people could list the books they've recommended. I read one that KV recommended, Bless Me, Ultima, which was wonderful.
What's on your list?

The Spiral of Fear - May's Barrette for BJP

....."A society or person that has allowed a tyrannical government or Bully to be responsible for them rather than being pro active become reactive...afraid of making the giant angry. This fear gives the tyrannical government or Bully more power over the fearful. All a Bully has to do is create the scenario that says if you do this you might count on me, but if you don't you should be afraid of me. This in turn creates more fear. Especially when the Bully is erratic. It also feeds the Bully's ego.
Fear is an emotion and emotions are hard to control...they are just feelings."

You can read the entire post here.

Finished!

Done! And hardly late at all! I'm so thrilled and proud to have been on this journey with so many talented people. Thanks, Robin, and everyone else, finished or not, for being part of this! I think I'll keep blogging on my BJP blog pages, in anticipation of the beginning of the new project. Next year I'll be working on smaller 'canvases' probably art card side, but probably beading them more intensively (at least that's my idea for now, who knows what I'll want to do in September. :-) You can see my May page here.
Cheers,
Sarah

May Page Accompli!

Well, I thought I was finished, but No. You can see my page for May HERE.

I realized there's still a bit more beadwork to be done.

I believe I'm done with all my pages...I think

Unless I decide I hate the way all the pages are strung together.

I also posted a current post showing 4 of my favorites as well as a really bad picture of all my pieces together.  The photo of the 4 show how I put all the pages together, just imagine all 12 strung together that way.  Click here for that.

Tonight I finally put up my May page, click here.

Now if I can get myself to resize everything so I can get it posted to the BJP webpage.  And one more upload to Flickr.  I think since I just spent 2 hours fixing photos and uploading I'll do all that maintence work over the next weekend.

I Have A Question

Since this blog was set up for this year's project is it going to remain active throughout the BJP for '08-09 as well? Even though I'm not planning to participate officially I'd like the opportunity to keep up with what everyone else is doing next year.
