Christy H Finished and Framed Her 12 Pieces!

Christy H, bead journal project, bead embroidery, detail
Actually, Christy finished her BJP pieces for this year quite a while ago and is now working on the current year's BJP. Finally, I got around to photographing her last four pieces and put them on my blog, here.

Christy and I worked together to prepare her 12 pieces for framing. Thinking our process might be useful to others in the BJP, I wrote a tutorial about how to do it. It's the second half of the post (here.)

Great work, Christy!!!!! Thanks for allowing me to share it with the group!

Hi all,
Morwyn, I'm excited to see that your BJP '07 piece will be in the Beaded Book exhibition. Congratulations! Our group from two years ago will be well represented. I've got a new (post BJP) piece that is also in the show. It's called "Metaphorically Speaking" and it's a beaded cigar box inspired by Joseph Campbell's "The Power of Myth" (and Mary Oliver's book of poetry "House of Light"). I wish I could see the show in person but will look forward to seeing it in print in the June/July issue of Beadwork. Are there other BJP'ers in the show?

December is finally finished

Hi all,

I took one month away to bead a pair of ballet slippers for an exhibition. Now, I'm proud to say that I finished my December BJP and have started my January BJP. I hope to catch up before the month of March. In the mean time, here is my Dec. page.

Edges

For those of you still keeping tabs on what is happeneding with the 2007 BJP, take a look here.
I have finished the edges and can start adding the grommets.

The Beaded Book Competition

Hey, guys - don't know if anyone still stops in here - but I wanted to share an update concerning my beaded journal. I entered it in Beadwork's Beaded Book Competition and I just got the news that it's been selected as a finalist! Now I just have to deal with the trauma of sending off to a bunch of strangers for a few months (insert deep breath here).

Many, many thanks to all the 07-08 BJP gang and especially Robin, who shoved us all down this rabbit hole in the first place., encouraging us to put beads to cloth, expressing ourselves in ways both familiar and strange, stretching our creativity and learning so much together and as individuals. The experience remains one of the richest in rewards - both personal and professional - I've ever known.
However this turns out in the end, I'm already a winner.

Slow as molasses in January

Hi,

I finally finished my April page from 2007-08. For the next go around I'm going to make smaller pieces. You can see April on my blog:

slow going...

Well, I finally finished all of the fire on my Elemental Fire panel. I still have to choose the colors for the inside - it will be green, like the leaf in the center of Elemental Air, but more of a true green as opposed to green-blue or blue-green.

Part of the reason this is going so slow is because I am doing a lot of writing lately. I have written a couple of new poems. I am also taking an Intro to Fiction Writing course online through UNC-Chapel Hill which is a blast - but tons of work.

Good Bye 2007 BJP

Today is the last day of the 2007 Bead Journal
Project.
I am glad that I am done with all of my 12 pages.
You can check my blog to see my last project.

My last page is complete!

Hello beady friends!

Well, talk about getting down to the wire! My last page, my November page, is finally finished and you can see it here. Even though I am 3 months late, I am feeling quite a sense of accomplishment today to be finally done with all of my pages.
To all of my fellow BJPers who are not done yet - have faith, it WILL happen. Keep on beading and, most of all, have fun!

Time Is SO Catching Up With Me!

Here it is, August 30, only one more day until 2008-2009 BJP officially begins.  I am nowhere near finishing up 2007...  and I'm realizing that that doesn't really matter so much.  This has been a wonderful, sanity-keeping experience for me, having my BJP project to come back to after things went haywire, which they did on a regular basis this last year.  I can confidently say that I wouldn't have come through nearly as well as I have without the beadwork and all of you to encourage and inspire me.  At this point I have 6 and 5/6th pages done, just a bit over half of the 12 I'd hoped to have.  And my solution is to invoke my Artistic License and, well, cheat and declare that each page will represent 2 months.  :- D  Oh, I'll still be working on 2007-2008 as I go along,  but right now I can have that (somewhat false) sense of achievement and completion. Page 7 will  be finished up by tomorrow, and then I will start 2008-2009.  And I still haven't decided on size, theme (if any), or anything.  I can't wait to find out what I'll come up with!
