Inner Battle

I mentioned in my blog that I had gone on a bead hunt and my beads jumped out at me. They are nice green-blue in color. I also bought red-orange seed beads in 3 sizes to go with them. Now that I’ve put the larger beads on, my brain said no to the red-orange beads. But then I want to use them but then I don’t. The inner battle of life. I started putting down sequins with other green-blue beads and pale yellow, which I used for the stamens in the flowers. I like it but the red-orange battle continues. Do I just do it? and live with the consequences? My friend told me I could never make anything ugly. Hum, what to do, what to do. Maybe I didn’t put the red-orange down because another friend said "Oh, I wouldn’t put them together". Does anyone else go through this kind of thinking? Should I take the sequins off or should I just keep going? This project is definitely a learning experience in more ways than one.

I have that inner argument all the time, in fact just yesterday I struggled with that very thing.

Sometimes I pour some beads on the piece to see if I like the combo. I walk away for a while and come back to see if I feel good about them or not.

Other times I jump in and sew a few rows. If I don't like them, I rippppp them out and do something else.

btw, I love what you've done so far. It's a calming piece (peace) so do you think the excitement of the orange/red eads adds too much tension/excitement to the piece? Are you going for calm or vivid or a balance between the two?

Just do it!!!! The very worst thing that could happen is that you hate how they look, and take them off. Where is the play, and the playfulness? Time to let it go about making the right decision, and just have fun! (Probably nobody will accuse me of having strong opinions... ha)

You aren't going to know until you have tried it! Can't tell you how many times I have ripped something out in at least a hundred projects.

But you gotta try it . . .

I want peace and I think at the time I was tenser than now. So I think the orange will wait until next month or not. But Robin you're right, just do it and who cares I can always rip it out. thanks for the reminder that I do have permission to do that.

Maybe something that you could work on learning during your bjp work is to TRUST YOURSELF and, if things seem nice to your eyes, go with them!!

Frankly, I love all colors together. You have blue greens so if you add orange which is red and yellow, you've got it all. Some people don't like all colors together but I feel like I've got the whole rainbow that way. It keeps me from feeling blah. On the piece I am currently working on I was just saying to myself today, "I've got blues and greens, I'll be adding red and a bit of gold. Yep, I've got the rainbow covered". And that's how I work the colors.

I go back and forth like this all the time. I lay out colors that feel right, and some of them are not. I pick a special color--don't use it after all things are considered. Then I go and search through my stash and sometimes I see just the perfect thing, though it's a color I wouldn't have considered earlier. Just go for it! You might just amaze yourself.
