What to Bead on?

This question was asked before, but now that some folks have answered that they use Peltex, I have a question. Is that like Timtex? Do you bead directly on the surface of the Peltex/Timtex or do you put fabric over it and bead on the fabric with the Peltex as backing? Thanks for all of you who share with us!

I am using Peltex, I put fabric over the top of it. I have continued to do so just to keep the continuity, but now that I know better, I would not have had to have fabric over the top. But if I was doing a necklace or a bracelet I would use Ultrasuede over the top of the Peltex, just for its beauty that would show through in the spaces.

Krispi -- I have never seen or used Timtex so I cannot give you a comparison. However, the Peltex can be used alone or with a fabric basted over it. I have used the Peltex for not only my beaded pages but also bead embroidered cuff bracelets and necklaces.

I have used fabric and handmade paper over the Pellon 70 and I have used it with nothing over it. I usually paint it or color it with Sharpies so the white doesn't show through.

My answer is the same about the Pellon 70 - with other fabric and alone, I've done both.

Also, I have coloured it with Sharpie markers, and I also added roving and felted it in the Pellon. It maintained the stiffness that I needed also.

I haven't used Timtex so I can't compare the two.
